Hyland's began when eight physicians founded Standard Homeopathic Pharmacy in Downtown Los Angeles. in 1903, George H. Hyland purchased that pharmacy with high hopes to expand it. In 1923, Cecil Craig, an ambitious pharmacy student joined in and later helped manage the manufacturing lab. Hyland's earliest found catalog mention of Hyland's Teething Tablets was in 1925, which was one of the company's first products. In 1940, Craig created Hyland's Pink Aspirin for his daughter, Marion. The tablet was created to dissolve quickly, so she could swallow it with ease. In 1987, Jay Borneman joined the company as Marketing Director and had a major goal to break into the chain drug store. This was done with Hyland's Teething Tablets. The company went on to purchase Luyties Pharmacal Co by 1995. In 1998, Hyland's founded 1 800 Homeopathy, a mail order catalog was known for its unique and eye catching branding complete with the amber glass bottle and hand drawn labels. The company managed to grow its customer base from 2,500 to 150,000 in a matter of years.
