Born in 2013, WOOD-SKIN blossoms from ingenious intuition of their creators: to make flexible rigid surfaces, three-dimensional at sheets of materials, to give volume, life and “soul” to the inert matter. Thanks to a new vision and sequence of traditional manufacturing techniques, will be obtained, in one single step of production, the geometries needed in order to fold in shape the three-dimensional volumes designed.
WOOD-SKIN shows its potential at first as a cladding system for walls, ceilings and complex volumes, but also as a system for exterior facades. It also evolves as a smart solution for covering existing volumes and furniture, volumes that can be self supporting and fold in shape much like rigid origami, complex shapes designed all around the world with contemporary software and then often hard to built with traditional techniques.
The Wood-Skin process transforms rigid materials into sheets of a “programmable” composite with the potential to be coded and to obtain a specific form thanks to the milling process, which allows the panel to bend along the “digital hinges”, just like an origami would. From the at state the materials evolve into the three-dimensional state where they can take endless shapes and functions without loose the original strength.
WOOD-SKIN gave, at first, organic shapes capabilities to wooden panels, in many different aesthetics thanks to the various range of wooden veneers.
Today, thanks to virtuous partnerships with selected Italian and international brands, it is a process applied to many different rigid materials such as aluminum, solid surface or HPL, giving them a new three-dimensional life.
