RAS Technologies has developed and patented a revolutionary, indoor, land-based aquaculture commercial production process with an initial focus on Pacific White Shrimp. The company is in the early stages of expansion and licensing its revolutionary recirculating aquaculture system (“RAS”) technology, which consists of our patented production system (Wetware) and internally developed, proprietary IT software (SeaTrust).
Stage:
- Proof of Concept: 7 years of R&D and $27M of invested capital has culminated in the world’s first commercial-scale, state-of-the-art, clear water Recirculating Aquaculture System, with an initial focus on Pacific White Shrimp, and an integrated IT infrastructure with substantial potential to be rolled out globally.
- Go-to-Market Capability: our initial commercial operation testing phase allowed us to: (i) prove our technology/production capabilities, (ii) develop distribution relationships; (iii) demonstrate product quality.
Sector:
- Infrastructure: our indoor, land-based technology addresses the following serious issues with respect to legacy seafood production: (i) food safety, most notably the prolific use of harmful chemicals including antibiotics, pesticides and hormones; (ii) substantial environmental degradation, both with respect to inland farms and open sea fishing; (iii) lack of food supply chain traceability; (iv) questionable labour practices in foreign countries.
- Technology: we have developed patented stacked, shallow raceway physical infrastructure and an internally developed smartfarm management software (“SeaTrust”), which we plan to roll-out internationally via licensing. In its current configuration, SeaTrust monitors and controls over 4,000 data points on a real-time basis including: pH, water temperature, salinity, dissolved oxygen, density and animal health. Our physical infrastructure is modular in nature and SeaTrust has been designed to facilitate real-time remote monitoring/analysis based on high-resolution imagery and full-farm connectivity
Product Offering:
- CPG Division: we have previously marketed our product via distributors, retailers, foodservice and hospitality. We have incumbent relationships in Canada, the US and Japan.
- Licensing Division: as we developed our technology, we recognized the opportunity to license our proprietary wetware and software to partners around the world. We have removed geography as a persistent barrier to enjoy fresh seafood: our indoor, land-based, clear-water technology is revolutionary in the sense that it has the unique ability to be deployed in any area with a reliable power and water supply. We have yet to actively market this, however, given how compelling this opportunity is, several potential licensees have reached out to us. After we secure financing, we are excited to aggressively market this worldwide.
- Chitosan Division: as a company which seeks to (i) minimize waste; (ii) enhance environmental sustainability; and (iii) maximize revenue, we have constructed an arrangement to sell our by-product (heads and shells) to produce chitosan, which is a high-growth (25% CAGR) raw material particularly in high grade, via a strategic partnership with an established chitosan distributor. our product is currently being evaluated by a leading Canadian university, focused on aquaculture and chitin extraction, which will determine the grade of chitosan purity resulting from our ultra clean technology.
